Electric Vehicle Charging Pile Market Overview

Product Overview and Scope of Electric Vehicle Charging Pile

Charging piles can convert electricity on the grid into electricity standards that can be used to charge electric vehicles. Charging piles typically provide two charging methods including slow charging and fast charging. By installation method, charging piles can be divided into floor-mounted charging piles and wall-mounted charging piles. In Russia. The charging pile market is expected to gain traction due to government-supportive initiatives for increasing electric vehicle production.

The charging pile’s function is almost the same as the fuel dispenser in a gas station. This can fix on the ground or wall and installed in public buildings and parking lots or charging stations in small areas and can charge various types of electric vehicles with different voltage levels. The input of the charging pile is directly connected to the AC grid and the output is equipped with a charging plug to charge the electric vehicle. People can use a specific charging card to swipe the card on the human-machine interface provided by the charging port and perform corresponding operations, such as charging time, charging mode, and cost data printing. The charging post display can show data such as charging cost, charging volume, and charging time.

Charging piles are fixed on the ground and use conductive methods to provide AC power for electric vehicles equipped with onboard chargers, and have corresponding communication, billing, and safety protection functions. Thus, people only need to buy IC cards and recharge them, and then they can use the charging pile to charge their cars. The AC charging pile is a power supply device installed outside the EV and connected to the AC grid to provide AC power to the EV vehicle charger with metering and charging functions. DC charging pile is a power supply device fixed outside the EV and connected to the AC grid to provide low-power DC power to the EV power battery. The DC charging post has the function of a charger and can monitor the status of the charging battery in real-time.

Post-pandemic, the demand for electric vehicles has increased. The rising adoption of consumers from conventional cars to EVs and initiatives from major key players and companies in deploying EV charging infrastructure that is expected to drive market growth in Russia. In Russia, the Ministry of Economic Development said, by 2030 there could be 1.5 million EVs on Russian roads, supported by 20,000 new charging stations, according to the plan.

Market Drivers

  • Increasing sales of electric vehicle is driving the growth of the Russia Electric Vehicle Charging Piles Market

The sales of electric vehicles is increasing in Russia with rising adoption of electric vehicles owing to their environmental advantages and long-term cost savings. Therefore, electric vehicle manufacturers across the world are increasing the production of EVs in Russia. For instance, in July 2023, the company Exeed announced the entry into the Russian market of a subsidiary of Exlantix, which will sell RUSSIAN FEDERATION electric vehicles under the brand of the same name. With the rising adoption of EVs, consumers' need for convenient and accessible charging solutions.

Additionally, in 2021, Avtotor manufactured a total of 177,000 vehicles, which is a 13% increase from the year 2020. In September 2022, Avtotor announced planned to invest 32 billion roubles (USD 550 Million) in establishing infrastructure for EV production in Russia, including building several electric engine factories. The company planned to convert some production capacities to release the first EVs in 2023. Thus, this increasing EVs production accelerates the need for charging stations in Russia. In response to the increasing demand for charging infrastructure, various companies and government initiatives in Russia are likely to invest in expanding the charging network across the country. This investment would include the installation of more charging piles or stations in residential areas, commercial establishments, public spaces, and along highways.

Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin approved 29 measures to support the electric vehicle market. As per the recent decree, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economic Development, and regional authorities are creating methodological guidelines for executing the program that offers subsidies for fast charging stations. This task will be based on a pilot project that involved 12 regions. In 2022, state support led to the opening of 439 charging stations in these regions. In 2023, the number of participants in such pilots increased to 34.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has allocated over 400 billion rubles for the development of electric transport in the country by 2030. The program aims to establish 20,000 charging stations by 2023 and increase the number to 150,000 within the next six years.

Therefore, supportive government policies and incentives can boost the growth of the electric vehicle charging piles market. In addition to this, the advancements in charging technology are expected to play a key role in encouraging the adoption of EVs. Faster charging options, such as rapid charging stations or high-power chargers, are being developed and deployed, further improving the appeal of electric vehicles to potential buyers. This is also one of the key factors driving the growth of the Russia electric vehicle charging piles market.

  • Increasing focus on clean and sustainable transportation along with the growing awareness of environmental concerns is proliferating the growth of the Russian electric vehicle charging piles market.
