  • Market Position/ History
  • Rana Diving S.p.A. was founded in 1964 by two passionate sub-aqua enthusiasts from Ravenna, Italy—Rambelli and Nanni—who combined the first two letters of their surnames to form “Rana,” meaning "frog" in Italian, a nod to the traditional term “frogmen” used for divers. Their entrepreneurial journey began as the offshore oil and gas industry was emerging in the Adriatic Sea, with Agip (now Eni) expanding operations, providing Rana a timely entry point.
  • Shortly after its founding, Rana expanded into underwater pipeline and offshore platform installation, quickly becoming a leader in Italy’s diving and subsea engineering sector. In the 1970s, the company pioneered saturation diving in Italy, developing cutting-edge procedures that allowed it to operate across the globe, including in the Far East, Middle East, and West Africa.
  • Entering the 2000s, Rana launched a major modernization initiative, enhancing its technical capacity through investments in personnel training, new equipment, and procedural updates aligned with IMCA and OGP standards. In 2007, it became an active Contractor member of IMCA.
  • By 2009, Rana transitioned into a joint-stock company and today nearly one million hours of saturation diving experience, solidifying its position as a trusted partner for major oil companies and offshore contractors worldwide.
