Market Position/ History |
PPG Industries, Inc. company was established in the year of 1883. The company’s headquarter is located in the United States. Throughout the 20th century, PPG continuously evolved to meet market demands, shifting its focus from glass manufacturing to coatings and specialty materials. The company made significant acquisitions, including the purchase of Ditzler Color Company in 1928, which laid the foundation for its automotive coatings business. By the mid-century, PPG had established itself as a leader in both architectural and industrial coatings, serving customers in the automotive, aerospace, and construction sectors. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, PPG aggressively expanded its coatings business through strategic acquisitions. Key milestones included the acquisition of SigmaKalon in 2008, a major European coatings company, and the 2013 purchase of AkzoNobel’s North American architectural coatings division. These acquisitions reinforced PPG’s position as a dominant player in the global coatings industry. To further streamline operations, PPG divested its glass business in 2017, fully transitioning into a coatings-focused company. |

PPG Expands Aerospace Portfolio with New Advanced Adhesives: PPG (NYSE: PPG) has introduced two new adhesives to its aerospace product line: PPG PR-2940™ epoxy syntactic paste adhesive (ESPA) and PPG PR-2936™. These innovations are designed to enhance aircraft structural bonding while contributing to sustainability through lightweighting. PPG PR-2940 ESPA is a lightweight potting compound utilized by both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) providers for secondary aircraft structures. It reinforces honeycomb structures within internal aircraft components, including the inner wing structure, galley, lavatories, overhead bins, and flooring. PPG PR-2936, an epoxy-based adhesive, is designed for attaching the metallic or composite outer skin of an aircraft to its internal framework, including the fuselage, tail assembly, wings, and stabilizers. It cures at ambient temperatures, effectively filling gaps and irregularities while offering high mechanical strength, flexibility, and microcracking resistance across a wide temperature range. Sean Purdy, PPG’s global director of coatings and sealants for Aerospace, emphasized the performance and sustainability advantages these adhesives bring to aerospace customers. Daniel Sydes, PPG’s global product manager for adhesives, highlighted their improved chemistries and low-density properties, which contribute to a high strength-to-weight ratio, ultimately enhancing aircraft fuel efficiency. |
