Market Position/ History

H.B. Fuller, founded in 1887, began as a small manufacturer of flour and water paste in St. Paul, Minnesota. The company quickly grew under the leadership of Harvey Fuller, who introduced innovative products like scaffolding for wallpaper hanging and expanded the product line to include adhesives for canning. By the early 1900s, the company saw significant milestones, such as its incorporation in 1915 and reaching $157,000 in sales by 1929, even during the Great Depression. Over the decades, H.B. Fuller expanded its footprint internationally, with its first overseas operations in Canada and the Bahamas in the 1950s and later into South America, Europe, and Asia. By the late 1960s, the company was publicly traded and reached $36.6 million in sales, setting the stage for continued growth.

From the 1970s onward, H.B. Fuller entered a period of rapid expansion, acquiring numerous companies and increasing its international presence. In 1982, it opened its headquarters in St. Paul and expanded into new markets like China. By the 1990s, the company’s sales surpassed $1 billion, and in the early 2000s, it listed on the NYSE under the ticker symbol FUL. H.B. Fuller's acquisitions continued through the 2010s, including major companies like Royal Adhesives & Sealants in 2017 and Wisdom Adhesives. In recent years, under the leadership of President and CEO Celeste Mastin, H.B. Fuller has continued its growth strategy with several key acquisitions, including Adhezion Biomedical, Beardow Adams, and Aspen Research, ND Industries.
