T-Dodecyl Mercaptan (T-DM) is a colorless to light-yellow viscous liquid with a strong mercaptan odor, chemically represented as C??H??SH and having a molecular weight of approximately 202.4. It is insoluble in water but easily soluble in common organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, gasoline, and esters. The product is widely used as a polymerization regulator in the production of synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers, and resins, and also functions as an antioxidant or stabilizer in polymers including PVC, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Beyond polymer applications, T-Dodecyl Mercaptan is utilized in the synthesis of non-ionic surfactants, organic intermediates, bactericides, insecticides, lubricant additives, oil-field chemicals, and certain pharmaceutical ingredients. It is generally supplied in 200-liter steel drums and must be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from heat sources, open flames, oxidizing agents, and acids. |
