Market Position/ History

In 1997, HPW AG was founded with the vision of developing and marketing fresh, naturally ripened fruit from Africa, creating added value across the entire production chain for customers, consumers, and producers. The company initially imported fresh pineapples from West Africa to Switzerland but soon sought innovative products with added value. This led them to Ghana, where they began processing and packaging fully ripened fruit on-site, introducing the first fresh-cut fruit produced sustainably and fairly onto European shelves. Building on this success, HPW expanded its agronomist team in Ghana and, in 2011, established its first dried fruit factory in the country, continuing its mission to create sustainable value chains in regions where such systems had not previously existed.

To meet the growing demand for dried fruit, HPW AG founded HPW Fresh & Dry Srl. in Côte d'Ivoire in June 2020, focusing on premium, organically produced dried fruit. In 2021, the company expanded further by partnering with Vert Ltd to set up a dried fruit production facility in Kenya, enabling the supply of dried mangoes for nine months of the year. Since 2022, HPW has provided technical support to local producers in Burkina Faso and launched its own dried fruit production there in 2023, transferring knowledge from its established locations to help farmers succeed in selling their products.
