FDK Corporation was established in 1950 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2002, it acquired IWAKI ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. and established FDK ENERGY CO., LTD.

In 2010, the company acquired Sanyo Energy Twicell Co., Ltd. and Sanyo Energy Tottori Co., Ltd.

In 2011, it established Asahi Kasei FDK Energy Device Co., Ltd.

In the next year, FDK SALES CO., LTD was established and released an FDK power storage system using a Ni-MH battery.

In 2014, FDK Twicell Co., Ltd merged with FDK CORPORATION.

In 2015, Asahi Kasei FDK Energy Device Co., Ltd. became a wholly-owned subsidiary. The company name has been changed to FDK Lithium-Ion Capacitor Co., Ltd.

Further, in 2017, FDK ENERGY CO., LTD. merged with FDK CORPORATION.
