Market Position/ History

In April 2015, the two legacy companies (DORMA and Kaba) announced a merger of equals. Following regulatory approvals, the merged entity dormakaba Holding AG began formal operations on September 1, 2015.

DORMA, which was established in 1908, provided integrated door solutions, attendance recording, access control, and emergency escape and exit route provision. Kaba, which started in 1862, was known for access management solutions, high quality keys and cylinders, physical access control systems, enterprise data, and time recording. DORMA and Kaba shared an ambition in innovation, customer dedication, and entrepreneurship.

In the 20th Century, both companies began expanding internationally; DORMA added automatic doors, glass fittings, and movable partition systems, while Kaba expanded into RFID based access, high security locks and enterprise key systems. In 1995, Kaba became publicly traded and pursued acquisitions on a global level including Unican Security Systems and Ilco while DORMA expanded through new products and international operations.

The companies merged in 2015, and Dormakaba has been implementing a product integration, global efficiency and digital innovation strategy. In 2016-17 dormakaba acquired the Mesker and key Mechanical Security businesses from Stanley Black and Decker and further solidified its North American presence. In 2018, dormakaba launched its first cloud-based access management system and mobile access platforms.

Beginning January 2022, dormakaba implemented its Shape4Growth transformation, reorganizing into customer-centric regions (Americas, Asia?Pacific, Europe & Africa) and core product clusters (Access Automation, Access Control, Access Hardware, Key & Wall Solutions, and Services).
