Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta releases early versions of Llama 3 AI model in bid to catch ChatGPT
To compete with OpenAI, Meta Platforms has released alpha versions of its large language model, Llama 3, as well as an image generator. The models will be incorporated into the virtual assistant offered by Meta AI, which bills itself as the most advanced among its open-source competitors. Along with a standalone website, Meta's Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger apps will all prominently display the updated Meta AI assistant. In an effort to challenge OpenAI's dominant position in the market for AI apps, Meta has been making its Llama models available to developers. At first, the model will only produce text, but it will eventually be able to produce multimodality and more complex reasoning.
