Tata Motors ends Maruti’s 40-year reign as maker of India’s No.1 car

For the first time in 40 years, India’s top-selling car no longer carried the Maruti Suzuki logo. Tata Motors' Punch, a subcompact SUV, surpassed Maruti Suzuki's Wagon R and Swift to become the largest-selling car in the country in 2024.

Tata sold over 2.02 lakh units of the Punch in 2024, outpacing the Wagon R, which sold 1.91 lakh units. Notably, three of the top five best-selling cars in India for 2024 were SUVs. This shift towards premium cars presents a significant challenge for Maruti Suzuki, traditionally known for producing affordable vehicles. The company's limited range of SUVs, particularly those priced above Rs 10 lakh, has led to a decline in market share.

To put this into perspective, in 2018, prior to the pandemic, the Indian car industry had its best-ever year, with 33.49 lakh cars sold. Maruti held a dominant 52% market share, selling more cars than all its competitors combined. The top five best-selling cars were all Maruti models. Fast forward to 2024, when car sales in India surged to around 42.86 lakh, Maruti's market share dropped to 41%, and it no longer had the country's best-selling car.

The purchase of Arnott Industries ("Arnott" or the "Company") was announced  by MidOcean Partners ("MidOcean"), a leading alternative asset manager with headquarters in New York that specializes in middle-market private equity, structured capital, and alternative credit investments. Air suspension systems and suspension components for the automobile aftermarket are designed, developed, manufactured, and distributed by Arnott, a leader in suspension technology in North America and Europe. The transaction's financial details were not made public.
Arnott has been a world pioneer in engineering and producing high-quality aftermarket replacement air suspension systems and accessories since its founding in 1989. About 90% of the addressable air-equipped vehicles in operation (VIO) are covered by Arnott's more than 800 light passenger car products, all of which are of original equipment (OE) quality or higher. Arnott caters to a wide range of clients, including as jobbers and installers, national and local stores, wholesale distributors, and e-commerce resellers. The company manufactures its mission-critical replacement goods at its facilities in the United States and Europe after designing and engineering them in the United States.

Toyota, Revel Offer Complimentary DC Fast Charging for Toyota and Lexus Battery EV Customers in NYC

Revel and Toyota Motor North America (Toyota) today announced that Revel's DC fast charging network in New York City would be free to use for consumers of Toyota and Lexus battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for three years, ending on October 14, 2027. With four high-volume locations that are open around the clock and accept both NACS and CCS plug types, Revel presently runs the largest network of public fast charging stations in New York City.
Currently, Revel runs four stations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens with 64 rapid charging spaces. This includes the newly inaugurated Pier 36 Charging Station, which houses ten 320 kW chargers and is Revel's first location in midtown Manhattan.
Revel is to add 300 fast charging stations to its network in New York City within the next year. Some of the new locations will include a massive 60-stall station in Maspeth, Queens, and a 48-stall station near LaGuardia Airport. The business recently revealed that it has signed its first lease in downtown Los Angeles, and it also has seven properties under development throughout the Bay Area. With more than 1,800 dealerships, the Toyota and Lexus brands, and our commitment to promoting sustainable, next-generation mobility, Toyota has been a part of the North American culture for more than 65 years.
