The term durian emerged from its unique thorn covering and it is coming from the Malay word ‘Duri’ means Thorn. The Durian fruit originated from a group of islands namely the ‘Malay Archipelago’. Durian trees are native to countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, and Thailand, but they are also found in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Australia.

The durian fruit, encompassing essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin B complex (including B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6), vitamin A, and folate, acts as a significant driver for its popularity. These vitamins play vital roles in maintaining overall health, supporting immune function, promoting healthy skin, and aiding in energy metabolism. The antioxidant-rich nature of durian, comprising compounds like vitamin C, vitamin E, and various phytonutrients, serves as another factor for its consumption. Antioxidants play a crucial role in protecting the body against damage caused by harmful free radicals, which can lead to chronic diseases and cellular damage. Regular consumption of antioxidant-rich foods like durian has been associated with potential benefits for heart health, brain function, and the reduction of certain disease risks. This health-conscious trend boosts the demand for durian fruit as consumers seek out foods that can provide a natural defense against oxidative stress.
