India's 1st hydrogen powered train to run between Jind, Sonipat stations
The nation's first hydrogen-powered train is about to be launched, marking yet another milestone for Indian Railways. Soon, a test run of this novel train will take place between the railway stations of Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. The RDSO-designed hydrogen train type has eight passenger coaches that can accommodate 2,638 passengers on a single trip, despite the fact that it does not yet have a name.
The train's design was created by the Research, Design, and Standard Organization (RDSO). With this innovation, India will become one of the few nations that have started using hydrogen as train fuel. Interestingly, this will be the world's first major attempt. The first hydrogen-powered train in India has been fully designed. The train is anticipated to go through its last trial in the first quarter of the next year after completing the required procedures. The design of the train was created by RDSO, a significant division of Indian Railways, with an emphasis on innovation and contemporary usability.
The motor of hydrogen-powered trains is powered by electricity produced by hydrogen and oxygen fuel cells. Although China and Germany have worked on hydrogen fuel for rail transportation, widespread success has eluded them. With two coaches, the hydrogen train is currently solely in operation in Germany.
