RFID Label or RFID tag is a label that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) for storage and wireless transmission of data. It enables automatic identification and tracking of objects. These labels are smart labels with tiny microchip and antennas. RFID labels store different information such as product names, prices, locations, or unique identifiers. These labels are used for inventory management, asset tracking, supply chain management, etc. RFID labels can be read from a distance through the packaging, unlike the barcode.
There are 2 types of RFID Labels such as- Active RFID labels are battery-powered labels that broadcast unique identifiers. It enables real-time tracking and data transmission for long distances. Whereas, passive RFID labels are battery-less labels that depend on the radio waves of RFID readers for its operation and transmission of data. It is cost-effective and useful for short-range tracking.
RFID labels allow real-time tracking of products in the supply chain, from production to delivery. It leads to efficient and accurate inventory management. It can streamline the inventory and reduce the time for counting and tracking. The automatic inventory process reduces the need for manual labor. These labels possess unique identifiers and cryptographic features that lead to anti-counterfeiting. The RFID technology helps in tracking the product specifically in healthcare, food, and beverage industries. It also helps to reduce waste through efficient inventory management.
Despite benefits, the RFID Label market faces challenges such as cost, interference, security concerns, data management, and compatibility that impact accuracy and efficiency.
