Introduction of Polyether Block Amide - PEBA
PEBA, or polyether block amide, is a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The brand names for it include PEBAX (Arkema) and VESTAMID E. (Evonik Industries). It is a block copolymer made by polycondensing polytetramethylene glycol (PTMG), a polyether having an alcohol terminal, with a carboxylic acid polyamide (PA6, PA11, PA12).
It is used to replace popular elastomers including thermoplastic polyurethanes, polyester elastomers, and silicon because of its superior mechanical and dynamic capabilities, lower density than TPE, higher resistance to a wide range of chemicals, no yellowing after UV exposure, nice touch sensation, and a variety of décor options.
PEBA is used in a variety of industries, including sportswear, industrial, fibers & fabrics, packaging, medicine, and others. Therefore, a significant increase in the market's demand for PEBA has been noted.
