Research lights up process for turning CO2 into sustainable fuel
By utilizing sunlight on copper atoms, researchers from the Universities of Nottingham, Birmingham, Queensland, and Ulm have effectively converted CO2 into methanol. By creating a material with copper anchored on nanocrystalline carbon nitride, the researchers were able to transfer electrons from carbon nitride to CO2. This technique, which lowers carbon dioxide emissions that cause global warming, makes advantage of solar radiation. The new catalyst provides a path for the development of highly selective and tuneable catalysts. It is composed of sustainable elements such as carbon, nitrogen, and copper. This is a major step towards understanding photocatalytic materials in CO2 conversion.
