Polymers are big molecules made by bonding (chemically joining) a chain of building blocks. Thus, the polymers consist of two or more identical monomers joined in a chain to create a polymer material. The types of polymers are different from natural, synthetic, and hybrid. Natural polymers are polymeric materials that occur naturally, while Synthetic polymers are man-made polymers, such as polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, synthetic rubber, phenol-formaldehyde resin, nylon, polyacrylonitrile, PVB, silicone, etc. Hybrid polymers are naturally occurring polymers that are further chemically modified or synthetic polymers modified to form the desired polymer. With the assistance of the electrospinning process, such polymer materials can be utilized to form ultrafine fibers known as polymer nanofibers. Their ultrafine fiber structure renders the polymers extremely valuable for their ability to increase cell attachment, mass transfer, and drug loading properties.

Introduction for Nanofibers
Nanofibers are fibers whose diameters usually range from 1 to 1000 nanometers, putting them at the interface of the molecular and macroscopic worlds. Because of their very small size, nanofibers have unusual properties that are distinct from those of bulk materials, including increased surface area, high aspect ratio, and superior mechanical strength. These unique properties have seen the increasing application and interest of nanofibers in most fields, ranging from materials science to medicine, electronics, and energy.
One of the most striking characteristics of nanofibers is their high surface-to-volume ratio. This renders them particularly suitable for applications involving extensive surface interaction, e.g., in filtration systems, sensors, and catalysts. Nanofibers also have remarkable mechanical properties; they are light but strong, which makes them ideal for reinforcing composite materials and producing advanced textiles.
The most common way to make nanofibers is through electrospinning, a technique in which an electric field is utilized to draw out polymer solutions or melts into very fine fibers. When electrospinning is conducted, a jet of polymer is pulled out under the action of an electric field and forms fibers as the solvent is evaporated. This technique is highly versatile and can be employed on a variety of materials, ranging from synthetic polymers to natural biopolymers, enabling the production of nanofibers with different properties.
Besides electrospinning, there are other techniques like self-assembly, phase separation, and template-assisted methods that are employed to produce nanofibers. All these techniques have their own strengths and weaknesses based on the intended properties and the specific application.
