Lilly and EVA Pharma collaborate to expand access to baricitinib in low- to middle-income countries
Eli Lilly and Company and EVA Pharma announced that the companies have agreed to expand access to baricitinib to an estimated 20,000 people in 49 low- to middle-income countries in Africa by 2030. Baricitinib was discovered by Incyte and licensed to Lilly for the treatment of COVID-19, alopecia areata, rheumatoid arthritis, and atopic dermatitis. This partnership is a component of the Lilly 30x30 project, which by 2030 intends to increase 30 million people's annual access to high-quality healthcare who live in settings with limited resources. By 2026, baricitinib produced locally will be sold to several African nations through EVA Pharma's specialized high-containment plant.
Through this recently announced partnership, Lilly will be able to serve a larger number of individuals in low- to middle-income nations EVA's strong local manufacturing capabilities exceed global standards as well as its pan-African reach. Lilly and EVA Pharma have been collaborating since 2021 to guarantee a steady supply of life-saving medications throughout several African nations. As stated in 2022, Lilly and EVA Pharma are also working together to increase access to reasonably priced insulin in 56 countries, the majority of which are low- to middle-income countries.
