Introduction of Gyrotrons
Gyrotrons are the fast-wave electron tube which generates electromagnetic waves at very high frequency and intensity. The gyrotrons are capable of delivering hundreds of kilowatts of power at microwave and millimetre wavelengths. The operation of the gyrotron is based on a phenomenon known as the Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR), the instability of relativistic rotating electrons during the interaction, in a constant magnetic field, with an electric field of the electromagnetic wave
The gyrotron consist of the various components which are placed in the vacuum tube, which includes electron gun, an acceleration chamber, a resonance chamber (cavity) immersed in a strong magnetic field, a mode converter and
collector of electrons.
The electrons are emitted from a cathode and under the influence of strong magnetic field are accelerated towards gradually increasing magnetic field cavity. During this motion, part of energy of the electron motion along the lines of magnetic field is transformed into energy of gyration. Electrons having the cyclotron frequency slightly below the resonant frequency of the microwave are excited in the cavity and are clustered and decelerated by its transverse electric field. The clustered electrons and induces oscillation give microwave a gyration energy. The microwave generated within the cavity mode is converted to a wave beam by the mode converter, shaped by some mirrors, and output through the output window.

Gyrotrons are also referred as the fast-wave tubes which are used in certain high-frequency (35 to 94 GHz) radar applications, in communications systems, for plasma heating in some experimental thermonuclear fusion reactors, Meteorology, in detection of space debris and in industrial materials processing etc. and hence the gyrotrons are widely used in the market which fuels the growth of the gyrotrons market.
