USAID joins collaborative partnership to reduce food loss and waste.
USAID Administrator Samantha Power, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, FDA Commissioner Robert Califf, and EPA Administrator Michael Regan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration in reducing food loss and waste. This critical effort aims to increase the availability and affordability of safe, nutritious food, address the climate crisis, and combat poverty. Under this new agreement, the four agencies will encourage private sector engagement and partnerships to identify innovative solutions and best practices for reducing food loss and waste across all stages of the food supply chain, including growing, manufacturing, transporting, selling, handling, preparation, storage, and disposal. By leveraging their combined tools and resources through knowledge exchange, technical and financial resource sharing, and coordinated efforts, the U.S. aims to drive both national and global change. USAID remains dedicated to these initiatives and will build on existing investments, such as Feed the Future Innovation Labs, to support research on evidence-based solutions for reducing food loss and waste and collaborate with the private sector to scale new approaches.
