What is Fishmeal?

Fish meal is a dark powder, typically containing high protein levels, and significant amounts of fat and mineral matter. While once used as essential as a fertilizer, fish meal is now mostly used as feed for animals, notably poultry, swine, mink and farms, and pets. Adding fish meal to the diets of aquatic animals helps to minimize wastewater pollution, with improved digestion of the nutrient. The addition of high-grade fishmeal into the feed gives the finished product such as wild fish a 'natural or healthy' feature. The fish meal is comprised of pelagic, tiny oceanic fish, menhaden, herring, sardines, and anchovies. 

Fishmeal is manufactured from the left bones and offal of fish captured in commercial fisheries.
