Definition of Digital Mobile Radio:

Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is an open standard or protocol for digital mobile radios created by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). DMR was created to provide additional bandwidth on a given frequency.

DMR is a two-way radio standard that has been specified internationally. It makes use of digital technology and a time division method to increase efficiency and performance while also optimizing spectrum utilization.

Digital Mobile Radio operates at frequencies ranging from 30 megahertz (MHz) to 1000 megahertz (GHz) (Gigahertz). There are two types of DMR frequencies in this range: VHF (Very High Frequency) is a range of frequencies between 30 and 300 MHz, whereas UHF (Ultra High Frequency) is a range of frequencies between 300 and 1 GHz.

The ETSI DMR Standard defines three different tiers that includes Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III. The DMR uses numerous technologies including TETRA, PM25, DMR, and dPMR. It can be hand portable or in-Vehicle (Mobile).

DMR mobile radio provides a variety of functions such as voice and data communications, interface to external networks, call alert, emergency call, remote monitoring, quiet worker, push to talk ID, radio check, all call, and so on. DMR also has a signaling channel called the Reverse Channel.

It is used in commercial products around the world. Several industries such as aerospace & defense, commercial, transportation, oil & gas, mining, automotive, and others industries use digital mobile radio for communication. Hence there is high demand for digital mobile radio.
