Zoner Software was founded in 1993 by five passionate photography-loving graduates. The company quickly gained recognition with the launch of its precursor product, Zoner Media Explorer, in 1994, which rapidly gained over 100,000 users across Europe.

In 2004, Zoner officially focused on the digital photography boom with the release of Zoner Photo Studio, marking a significant step in its evolution. Eight years later, in 2012, Zoner expanded its presence internationally by opening its San Francisco headquarters to better serve its growing U.S. user base.

Zoner Photo Studio’s innovation continued in 2013, when it was named "Photo Software of the Year" by PhotographyBlog.com. In 2016, Zoner launched Zoner Photo Studio X, its latest version at the time. By 2017, the company made history by releasing the first photo editor to fully support the HEIF format.

In 2018, Zoner introduced AI-powered features that could detect faces in photos, making automatic edits more accurate. The following year, in 2019, Zoner released a video editor that supported multiple video and audio tracks.

Zoner’s commitment to excellence was recognized in 2021 when Zoner Photo Studio won two prestigious awards for Best Photo Editing Software from TIPA and EISA. In 2022, the company expanded its capabilities by building a lab dedicated to creating accurate color profiles for numerous supported cameras, while also launching the "Complete Guide to Photo Editing" for users of Zoner Photo Studio X.

In 2023, Zoner made another groundbreaking achievement by launching its Zonerama gallery, the first in the world to support HDR, AVIF, HEIF formats, and raw files.
