Market Position/ History Toyota Industries Corporation was founded in 1926 by Sakichi Toyoda to manufacture and sell automatic looms. Toyota Central Research & Development Laboratories, Inc. was established in 1960. In 1986, the company has gained the award for quality control implementation. In 1994, it has formed a joint venture with Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Lioho Machine Works, Ltd. The company acquires BT Industries AB of Sweden (now Toyota Material Handling Europe AB), a manufacturer of warehouse equipment in 2000. In 2001 the company has changed its name to Toyota Industries Corporation. Toyota Material Handling (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is established to sell lift trucks in China in 2003. Currently, Toyota Industries Corporation has more than 60,000 staff across the globe.

Toyota Industries Corporation is primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of automobiles, industrial vehicles, and textile machinery. The Company operates in three business segments.
The Automobile Business operates in a wide variety of car-related operations, from different vital components to finished automobiles, using synergies across its business divisions in development and production. It makes and sells autos, engines, automotive air-conditioning compressors, and electrical equipment, among other things.

Materials handling equipment designs manufactures, distributes, and supports a wide variety of goods, from industrial vehicles to materials handling systems, based on a comprehensive portfolio of lift trucks (0.5- to 43-ton capacity). It operates under the TOYOTA, RAYMOND, and CESAB brands as part of the TMHG management structure.

The Textile Machinery Division is responsible for fully integrated operations for spinning machines that spin twisted fiber bundles into yarn and weaving machines that weave spun yarn into textiles, from development to manufacturing through sales and after-sales services.
