Sotera Health's history traces back to the mid-1930s, when Griffith Laboratories pioneered the Ethylene Oxide (EO) sterilization process. In 1946, Nordion was founded in Ontario, Canada, marking the beginning of its leadership in providing Cobalt-60 for sterilization. In 1978, Sterigenics International (originally Radiation Sterilization) opened its first gamma sterilization facility in Tustin, California. Over the decades, Sterigenics expanded through various acquisitions, including the 2015 acquisition of CBE and the 2017 acquisition of Toxikon Europe, further enhancing its capabilities in electron beam, EO, and gamma sterilization modalities. In the 1980s, Dr. Jerry and Lynda Nelson founded Nelson Labs, a leader in microbiological and analytical chemistry testing services, which was acquired by Sotera Health in 2016.
