Turboexpanders with Advanced Foil Bearings

R&D Dynamics Corporation designs and manufactures high-speed, oil-free turboexpanders equipped with advanced foil air/gas bearings.

Product Models and Power Range:

R&D Dynamics offers two configurations of turboexpanders:

TurboEx (Compressor Loaded): These turboexpanders are typically used to recover energy from gas expansion processes. They are available in a range of sizes from 1 kW to 400 kW.

TurboAlt (Generator Loaded): These turboexpanders are used to generate electricity from the expansion of gases. They are available in a similar power range.

Model sizes range from small (1–7 kW) to larger industrial models (150–400 kW), with gas flow capacities ranging from 200 lbs/hr to 80,000 lbs/hr. These turboexpanders can handle a variety of gases depending on the specific needs of the application.

How Foil Bearings Work:

Foil bearings support the turboexpander's rotating shaft without physical contact. As the shaft rotates, a hydrodynamic film of air or gas is formed between the shaft and bearing surface, lifting the shaft off the bearing. This minimizes friction, enabling the turboexpander to run smoothly at high speeds with no oil or grease required.
