Market Position/ History

Qemetica, formerly known as the CIECH Group, has a history spanning over 75 years. Established in 1945 as the Central Import and Export of Chemicals, the company initially focused on trading chemical products. In the late 1980s, following political changes, CIECH transitioned from trading to production, incorporating chemical factories, including soda ash plants, under the State Treasury's ownership. In 2005, CIECH went public on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, marking a period of expansion with the acquisition of soda factories in Romania and Germany. A transformative milestone occurred when Kulczyk Investment acquired 51% of shares, driving dynamic growth through acquisitions, such as Proplan in Spain, and executing the largest investment program in the company’s history. In 2023, a new chapter began as majority shareholder Sebastian Kulczyk initiated a buyout of remaining shares, resulting in the company delisting from the Warsaw and Frankfurt stock exchanges in early 2024. Alongside this, the company rebranded to Qemetica, unveiling a new six-year strategy focused on innovation, sustainability, and energy transformation, reflecting its ambition to become a one of leading player in the chemical industry.
