Business Segment or Overview of PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk

PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk. Business segment includes:

Palm Oil Business

PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk has been engaged in the palm oil industry since 1992, converting part of its rubber plantations into oil palm estates. The company operates both nucleus plantations (company-owned) and plasma plantations (managed by partnered farmers).

The company's palm oil segment focuses on the production of Crude Palm Oil (CPO), Palm Kernel (PK), and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO). These products serve as key raw materials for both food and non-food industries, including cooking oil, margarine, detergents, and biofuels. Additionally, the company supplies raw materials to its oleochemicals business segment for further processing into value-added derivatives.

Rubber Business

PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk is Indonesia’s oldest natural rubber producer, with its first rubber plantation established in 1911 in Kisaran, North Sumatra. The company specializes in producing latex, Block Skim Rubber (BSR), and centrifuge latex (cenex), known for its high quality and significant market presence.

Rubber plantations undergo replanting cycles approximately every 25 years, ensuring sustainable production. The company's rubber processing relies on latex sourced from company-owned plantations and third-party suppliers.

Oleochemicals Business

The company's oleochemicals division processes CPO and PKO into various fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and glycerin, serving industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and biofuels. Oleochemicals provide a sustainable alternative to petrochemicals, supporting the global shift toward renewable raw materials.

PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk also owns a refinery plant producing olein, stearin, and Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD), along with a kernel crushing plant that extracts PKO and Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE) as a by-product.

To enhance efficiency and sustainability, the company utilizes natural gas for heat and steam generation, ensuring a clean energy source while leveraging state-owned electricity (PLN) for stable power supply. As of 2022, the company adjusted its oleochemical business structure, transferring part of its oleochemical processing assets in line with its reduced ownership in subsidiary DAP through BRC to Poseidon Corporate Service Ltd.
