Market Position/ History

Nufarm began in 1916 as New Zealand Farmers Fertilizer (NZFF), delivering quality products to support farmers. In 1957, Max Fremder established Nufarm Australia, providing crop solutions tailored to local growers. The company gained a strong reputation for product quality and service in the 1970s, eventually relocating its headquarters to Melbourne. In 1988, Nufarm merged with NZFF, sparking a period of rapid growth. Expansion into global markets followed, with entry into America in 1988-89, Asia in 1991-92, and Europe between 1994-98. The company further strengthened its international presence through acquisitions such as Riverdale Chemical Co. (1999) in the U.S. and Agripec and Agrogen (2004) in South America. In 2006, Nufarm established its seed business, Nuseed, providing hybrid crop solutions. A strategic partnership with Sumitomo began in 2010, leading to access to an expanded product portfolio. In 2015, Nufarm refined its strategy to focus on key crops in crucial regions. The company continued evolving, selling its Latin American business to Sumitomo in 2020. Today, Nufarm remains committed to delivering innovative agricultural solutions globally.
