Mitsubishi Pencil was founded in 1887 when Niroku Masaki established the Masaki Pencil Manufacturing Company in Tokyo, Japan. The company initially focused on producing wooden pencils. In 1930, Masaki Pencil Manufacturing Company merged with Mitsubishi Bank to form Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. The company continued its pencil manufacturing operations under the new name. Mitsubishi Pencil achieved significant milestones in the following decades. Mitsubishi Pencil expanded its presence beyond Japan and began exporting its products to international markets. They established subsidiaries and distribution networks in various countries, including the United States, Europe, and Asia. In 2003, Mitsubishi Pencil underwent a corporate restructuring and changed its name to Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. Mitsubishi Pencil expanded its product offerings beyond pencils and ventured into other stationery items. They acquired companies like Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. in 1995, which further strengthened their position in the stationery market. |
