Market Position or History DePuy was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 1998, rolling it into the Medical Devices group.
Johnson & Johnson acquired George F. Merson's company in 1947, and it was renamed Ethicon Suture Laboratories. In 1953 this became Ethicon Inc.
In July 2017, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc announced that its Abbott Medical Optics subsidiary would acquire TearScience.
In August 2020, it was announced that Johnson & Johnson is set to buy the biotech company Momenta Pharmaceuticals.

Business Segment/ Overview

The Company is organized into three business segments: Consumer, Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices. The Consumer segment includes a broad range of products focused on personal healthcare used in the beauty, over-the-counter pharmaceutical, baby care, oral care, women’s health and wound care markets. The Pharmaceutical segment is focused on six therapeutic areas: Immunology (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and psoriasis), Infectious Diseases (e.g., HIV/AIDS), Neuroscience (e.g., mood disorders, neurodegenerative disorders and schizophrenia), Oncology (e.g., prostate cancer and hematologic malignancies), Cardiovascular and Metabolism (e.g., thrombosis and diabetes) and Pulmonary Hypertension. The Medical Devices segment includes a broad range of products used in the orthopaedic, surgery, interventional solutions (cardiovascular and neurovascular) and eye health fields.
