In its Diagnostics segment, Hologic offers a broad range of products designed to assist in the screening and diagnosis of human diseases. Its molecular diagnostic assays, which run on advanced instrumentation systems like Panther and Panther Fusion, are used to detect infectious microorganisms, high-risk HPV strains, and sexually transmitted diseases, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis. The company also provides viral load tests for Hepatitis B, C, HIV-1, and CMV, as well as diagnostic tests for acute respiratory infections such as SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus. Hologic's ThinPrep cytology system and the Rapid Fetal Fibronectin Test further support early detection and prenatal care. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hologic developed a series of SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic assays.
In the Breast Health segment, Hologic offers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for breast imaging, biopsy, surgery, and pathology. These solutions include 3D digital mammography systems, AI-powered image analysis software, breast biopsy guidance systems, and advanced biopsy site markers. Its Selenia 3D Dimensions and 3Dimensions systems utilize tomosynthesis technology to create detailed 3D breast images, enhancing early detection and diagnosis.
Hologic's GYN Surgical segment features a variety of products that improve women's health outcomes. The MyoSure system allows for the incision-less removal of fibroids and polyps, while the NovaSure system is used for endometrial ablation to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. The Fluent fluid management system, Acessa ProVu laparoscopic system for fibroid treatment, and CoolSeal vessel sealing devices for advanced surgery are also key components of this segment.
In the Skeletal Health segment, Hologic provides products such as the Horizon DXA system, a dual-energy x-ray machine that assesses bone density and body composition. The company also offers the Fluoroscan Insight FD mini C-arm, which aids in performing minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries, particularly for the extremities like the hand, wrist, knee, foot, and ankle.
Through its diverse product offerings across these segments, Hologic, Inc. is committed to advancing healthcare for women and providing clinicians with innovative tools to enable early detection, diagnosis, and treatment.

Acessa ProVu System |
The Acessa ProVu System is designed for percutaneous, laparoscopic coagulation and ablation of soft tissue, specifically for treating symptomatic uterine fibroids under laparoscopic ultrasound guidance. The system offers optional electromagnetic guidance to enhance the ultrasonic image of the Acessa ProVu Handpiece and predict its future path on a computer monitor, which also displays the ultrasound B-scan image. This integrated system combines radiofrequency (RF) ablation, ultrasound, and guidance capabilities within a single console and includes additional accessories. It delivers monopolar RF energy to tissue through a disposable Handpiece and can provide up to 200W of power. The Acessa ProVu System’s console is designed exclusively for use with Acessa Health-manufactured devices. It features temperature or power display, depending on the mode used, to help physicians monitor and control the ablation during the procedure. The system operates under laparoscopic ultrasound guidance, using ultrasound wave pulses to capture echo data, which is then used to create B-mode images on the monitor. The Acessa ProVu System Transducer (5-12 MHz) is used for imaging. Additionally, the Acessa Guidance System, an advanced electromagnetic spatial tracking system, tracks the position and orientation of sensors embedded in the tip of the Handpiece and Transducer with Sensor. This allows the system to calculate their position within the abdominal cavity and display an animated image on a monitor. The Acessa ProVu System consists of a console with the following components: an RF ablation system, an ultrasound system, and a guidance system. Benefits of the Acessa ProVu System:

November 2022 |
Humber River Health (Humber) has launched the use of the Acessa ProVu system – a new way to treat uterine fibroids. Humber River Health (Humber) has introduced the Acessa ProVu system, a minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids, becoming one of only two centers in Canada to offer this approach. Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors affecting up to 70% of women during their reproductive years, with around 30% of those experiencing symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, and difficulty with pregnancy. While mild cases often don’t require treatment, severe symptoms are typically managed through surgeries like hysterectomy or myomectomy. The Acessa ProVu system offers a novel, non-invasive solution by using radiofrequency ablation, laparoscopic ultrasound, and monopolar cautery. Developed by Dr. Bruce B. Lee, the system targets fibroids of various sizes and locations, shrinking them without the need for incisions or uterine cuts. The procedure preserves healthy uterine tissue by destroying fibroid proteins with heat, causing the fibroid to shrink and reabsorb over time. With minimal post-operative pain and a quick recovery, patients can return to normal activities faster. Additionally, the procedure requires only two to three small incisions, making it cosmetically advantageous. |
