GSK plc. was founded in and is headquartered in Brentford, United Kingdom Glaxo Wellcome plc and SmithKline Beecham plc merged in 2001 to become GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK), but GSK origins can be traced back to 1715. In 2009, a unique partnership with P?zer led to the launch of ViiV Healthcare, a company focused on delivering advanced treatment and care for HIV communities. In 2014, it submitted a file to the European Medicines Agency for the world’s first malaria-candidate vaccine. Since 2018, the WHO has piloted the vaccine in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi. The company has been producing tuberculosis vaccines for children for more than 60 years. In 2020, a new tuberculosis vaccine candidate was licensed to the Gates Medical Research Institution after positive trials in adolescents and adults. The acquisition of Tesaro in 2019 has further strengthened the company's oncology portfolio and pipeline, with new treatments for ovarian, multiple myeloma, and endometrial cancer. In 2022, GSK reborned as a company solely focused on the development of new medicines and vaccines. |
