Glaxo Wellcome plc and SmithKline Beecham plc merged in 2001 to become GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK), but GSK origins can be traced back to 1715.

In 2009, a unique partnership with P?zer led to the launch of ViiV Healthcare, a company focused on delivering advanced treatment and care for HIV communities.

In 2014, it submitted a file to the European Medicines Agency for the world’s first malaria-candidate vaccine. Since 2018, the WHO has piloted the vaccine in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi.
