Market Position/ History |
Groupe Roullier was established in 1959 following the acquisition of its first crushing plant used to process local maërl for agricultural soil improvement. In 1963, the group combined maërl with Tunisian Gafsa soft rock phosphate and strengthened its commercial reach across France through a dedicated field sales network. The company expanded fertiliser production in 1971 with the construction of the first TIMAC AGRO pelletising plant in Saint Malo. The Phosphea activity began in 1976 with the startup of a processing plant in the Saint Malo Industrial Park. By 1979, the group initiated international expansion through the acquisition of multiple production plants worldwide. In 1984, the group acquired its first research laboratory in Spain to support development activities. Diversification followed in 1988 with the creation of a plastics business line and in 1989 with entry into food processing through Paticeo. The international footprint strengthened in 1997 with a production plant acquisition in Brazil and in 2000 with the purchase of a mining and production operation in Spain under the Terresis division. The Phosphea division expanded internationally in 2003 through the opening of its first plant in Tunisia, and in 2004 TIMAC AGRO entered Central and Eastern Europe via a production facility in Austria. In 2005, the company opened the CERA Applied Research Centre to centralize industrial research capabilities. The group enhanced logistics and raw material security in 2011 through a joint venture to build bulk carriers and in 2012 through a magnesia mining partnership in Brazil. More recently, the group expanded internationally with Paticeo’s acquisition in Belgium in 2020, consolidation of magnesium operations and expansion in the United States in 2021, and the acquisition of the SPO production plant in Brazil by Phosphea in 2022. Over time, the company evolved from a regional soil amendment producer into a diversified international group active across plant nutrition, animal nutrition, food processing, and industrial activities |
