Market Position/ History |
Duik Combinatie Noordersluis (DCN) was founded on January 1, 1957, by Wim Vriens Sr. as Vriens Diving Company in Roosendaal. The company expanded quickly, moving to Bergen op Zoom in 1973. In the 1980s, DCN contributed to the Oosterscheldekering project and entered saturation diving with its first project in Newfoundland, Canada, in 1982. In 1992, Vriens Diving became Duik Combinatie Noordersluis (DCN) after a joint venture with Raaymakers Diving. The company shifted focus to civil works in the 1990s, specializing in underwater concreting for tunnels in Germany. By the early 2000s, DCN strengthened its position in civil works in the Netherlands. In the 2010s, DCN refocused on offshore and hyperbaric operations, establishing a Hyperbaric Testing Centre. The company expanded its presence in the North Sea market in 2016 and upgraded its premises in 2019, enhancing its facilities to include a Wet Test Centre, a Helipad, and a dedicated warehouse, solidifying its role in the global commercial diving industry. |

DCN Diving B.V. is a multidisciplinary marine and underwater solutions provider, delivering integrated services across complex offshore, civil, and hyperbaric environments. With an emphasis on safety, precision engineering, and operational excellence, DCN operates across five core business segments:
Offshore & Subsea Operations
Saturation Diving
DCN offers advanced saturation diving services for deepwater projects requiring extended work times at significant depths. Supported by dive support vessels (DSVs) and compliant systems, DCN facilitates subsea construction, repair, and inspection in high-risk environments.
Surface Supplied Diving
DCN deploys surface-supplied diving teams for medium-depth subsea tasks. Utilizing state-of-the-art umbilical systems and communications, this service is optimal for inspection, welding, dredging, and maintenance in nearshore and offshore projects.
ROV Support
DCN integrates Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for subsea observation, intervention, and tool deployment. ROV services enhance diver safety, increase efficiency, and provide critical access to otherwise unreachable environments.
Inspection and Repair Vessels
DCN maintains a fleet of specialized vessels capable of supporting diving operations, ROV deployments, hyperbaric work, and marine logistics. These vessels serve as mobile hubs for inspection, maintenance, and emergency repair campaigns.
Vessel Supply
DCN supports clients with vessel sourcing and operations management, ensuring the right assets—such as anchor handling tugs, dive support vessels, and multi-purpose vessels—are deployed efficiently for project needs.
Civil Marine Infrastructure
Bridges & Tunnels
DCN plays a pivotal role in the construction and maintenance of submerged and tidal civil structures. Services include underwater piling, caisson setting, cofferdam installations, and concrete placement for bridge piers and immersed tunnels.
Hydro Power Dams & Dam Maintenance
DCN provides inspection, silt removal, turbine maintenance, underwater welding, and crack sealing to ensure the ongoing integrity and performance of hydroelectric infrastructure.
Civils
DCN’s marine civil division supports quay wall construction, breakwater installations, culvert repairs, and revetment works, leveraging diving and dry-space creation technologies to operate in flooded or submerged sites.
Hyperbaric & Underwater Welding
Hyperbaric & Wet Welding
DCN delivers class-certified wet welding and dry hyperbaric welding using pressurized enclosures and habitats. These operations support critical repairs and structural fabrication tasks on submerged steel and concrete infrastructure.
Creating Dry Space
DCN uses bespoke cofferdams and habitats to create sealed dry environments for work in otherwise submerged locations. This enables the safe execution of welding, bolt-ups, inspections, and engineering modifications.
Hyperbaric Testing
DCN operates hyperbaric test chambers to simulate deep-sea pressure conditions for validating equipment integrity, diver tools, suits, and prototype subsea systems.
Engineering, Survey & Testing
Engineering
DCN’s in-house engineering division provides design, analysis, fabrication, and custom solution development for subsea, structural, and hydraulic challenges. Services span project conception to installation methodologies and technical support.
Survey
DCN conducts hydrographic and geophysical surveys using diver, ROV, and vessel-mounted sensors. This includes pre-construction seabed mapping, structure positioning, as-built documentation, and inspection of existing infrastructure.
Testing
DCN performs non-destructive testing (NDT), load testing, and pressure testing services, both underwater and in controlled hyperbaric environments. These ensure safety, compliance, and quality assurance across subsea assets.
Dredging, Concreting & Environmental Works
Dredging
DCN executes precision dredging operations for seabed preparation, trenching, cable or pipeline burial, and maintenance of navigation channels. Projects are supported by diver-operated tools, suction dredgers, and excavation systems.
Underwater Concreting
DCN delivers specialized underwater concreting using tremie methods or prefabricated formwork systems. Applications include pile encapsulation, repair of submerged structures, and foundation builds in tidal environments.
Shipping & Logistics Support
Shipping
DCN provides marine logistics and shipping support, ensuring timely transport of critical infrastructure components, heavy equipment, and subsea tools to offshore and coastal sites under stringent safety and compliance protocols.
