Market Position/ History |
Cosmed Group was founded in 1981 by Dr. Michael Howe and Mr. Jerry Rhoads, initially focusing on sterilization services. Over the next two decades, the company expanded its operations, opening multiple facilities across the United States, including locations in Baltimore (1986), Carteret, NJ (1990), Coventry, RI (1991), and Waukegan, IL (1994). During this period, Cosmed also secured key patents, such as Patent #4863566 in 1989 for the preservation of printed cellulosic material and Patent #6800246 in 2004 for bulk decontamination using sub-atmospheric saturated steam. By 1999, the company had introduced the first industrial-scale, all-in-one EtO sterilization facility in Grand Prairie, TX. In 2005, Cosmed Group divested five medical device sterilization facilities to focus on food pasteurization, launching its Newman, CA facility in 2006 with its H2O Express™ technology. However, in 2012, the company reentered the medical device sterilization market, providing equipment and facility design services. It further expanded its presence by acquiring sterilization facilities in Erie, PA (2016) and Franklin, NJ (2017). Throughout its history, Cosmed Group has played a significant role in the sterilization industry, adapting its services to meet evolving market demands. |

Product Description |

PPO Pasteurizers |
Cosmed Group's propylene oxide pasteurizers are designed to meet the stringent requirements for medical device sterilization systems, ensuring compliance with U.S. FDA process control and validation standards. This advanced technology addresses the growing scrutiny of agricultural products, including spices and nuts, for pathogen contamination. With increasing federal import detentions and the visibility of the Reportable Food Registry, commodity importers and their customers face heightened public attention. The company's propylene oxide pasteurizers are engineered to exceed the Almond Board of California’s protocol for almond pasteurization, guaranteeing that commodities achieve a 5-log or greater reduction in pathogen contamination. This ensures that businesses can confidently meet regulatory standards while safeguarding the quality and safety of their products. |
