Market Position/ History |
BGB was founded in 1976 by three colleagues Gordon, David, and their wives, whose initials formed the company's name starting as a small operation in a makeshift workshop in Leicestershire. The business initially focused on manufacturing brush calipers for local businesses, but after moving to a new location in Grantham in the early 1980s, the company expanded its offerings to include slip rings, starting with small hand-built units. Following the dissolution of the partnership, David Holt Snr. became the sole owner and continued to drive the company's growth. In the 1990s, BGB began to gain recognition, particularly in the wastewater industry, and started exporting products. The company’s big breakthrough came in the wind energy sector, where it began supplying pitch control slip rings to early OEMs like Vestas and NEG Micon, positioning BGB as a key player in the renewable energy market. From 2001 to 2010, BGB’s growth accelerated significantly, especially within the wind industry as the market expanded. The company completed a major site expansion in 2009 and earned national accolades, including The Queen’s Award for Export. This period also saw BGB introduce its successful Fibre Optic Rotary Joint (FORJ) and continue to innovate with new products. In the 2010s, BGB further expanded internationally, establishing BGB Technology Inc. in Virginia, USA, and diversifying its offerings with induction power products and hydraulic rotary joints. The company’s commitment to R&D led to the opening of a second UK site in 2017, which housed a world-class test facility. After the passing of David Snr. in 2018, his son, David Holt Jnr., took over leadership, consolidating all divisions under the BGB brand. As the company enters the 2020s, BGB is focusing on new markets such as Electric Vehicle technology and "Smart" solutions, ensuring continued growth and innovation in the years to come. |
