Market Position/ History

Paul C. Beiersdorf established the business in 1882. The patent for coated plasters manufactured by Paul Beiersdorf, dated March 28, 1882, is recognized as the company's founding date. After purchasing the laboratory from Paul C. Beiersdorf in 1890, the pharmacist Dr. Oscar Troplowitz rapidly grew it into a renowned manufacturer of branded goods. The factory produced plasters and pharmaceuticals in addition to consumer goods names including NIVEA and Labello. Dr. Otto Hanns Mankiewicz, Troplowitz's brother-in-law, joined the company as a partner in 1906. At the Company, Mankiewicz was principally concerned with trademark matters. The Tesa business sector was established as a stand-alone division under Beiersdorf in April 2001. Tesa is primarily concerned in creating self-adhesive goods. As a joint venture between Beiersdorf (Hamburg) and the American-owned Smith & Nephew (London), the firm established BSN Medical on April 1, 2001, to cater to the surgical dressing, orthopaedic, and phlebology markets. In 2022, Beiersdorf became a member of the EcoBeautyScore Consortium, an endeavor including over 70 groups and firms that specialize in body care and cosmetics. Furthermore, the corporation made worldwide investments in IT infrastructure, new production lines, and cutting-edge technologies in 2023. They want to finish expanding their factory in Mexico by 2024.
