AVK Holding A/S was established in 1941 by Aage Valdemar Kjær as a local machine shop.

In the 1970s, demand for its products increased, leading to exports to Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and England. AVK also started its rubber production at AVK Gummi A/S, established the FLONIDAN gas division in Denmark, and acquired the tooling factory AVK Tooling A/S.

By the late 1990s, the company expanded its exports to include Saudi Arabia, the Far East, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Canada, South Africa, Latin America, Australia, the Baltic States, Israel, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Slovakia. The company acquired factories and sales companies in France, the Netherlands, and South Africa, and opened sales companies in Hong Kong, Poland, and the Philippines.

In the 2000s, the company expanded its exports to include Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Turkey. It also acquired companies in the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, Italy, Brazil, India, the UK, Denmark, and Switzerland, and obtained shares in a Japanese company.

In the subsequent years and up to the present day, the company has focused on making large investments and acquisitions. This includes multiple acquisitions in Australia, Brazil, England, Spain, Germany, South Africa, and the UAE.

The company has more than 100 companies in the group. It comprises of 107 operating companies and six associated companies in 37 countries.
