IBM to buy HashiCorp in $6.4 billion deal to expand in cloud
IBM plans to purchase California-based HashiCorp for $6.4 billion, extending its cloud-based software offerings to capitalise on an AI-driven spike in demand. The purchase is estimated to increase IBM's adjusted core earnings within the first year of close, by the end of 2024. IBM's software division climbed 5.5% in the first quarter, and the corporation has increased its focus on cloud computing to store and analyse massive quantities of data needed in artificial intelligence programmes. The purchase is planned to be financed by cash on hand and will increase adjusted core profit within the first year of completion.
