AI-based app for cancer care clicks with patients
To help patients with advanced cancer adhere to their treatment regimens, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has created a smartphone application called UPPCHAR, an AI-based health education system. The efficacy of the UPPCHAR app with traditional prescription methods and booklet-based education on medication adherence and knowledge among advanced cancer patients receiving palliative care at a tertiary care center was compared in a study by AIIMS and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). A total of 204 patients were divided between the two groups for the study. After a six-month intervention, preliminary findings indicate that patients who used the mobile app had better medication compliance than those in the standard prescription group. Important data including the frequency, intensity, and consumption of additional drug doses, as well as pharmaceutical recommendations from AIIMS physicians, can all be recorded by the app. Patients in the trial were followed up on every two weeks for a duration of six months, starting in 2021. Researchers point out that personalized recommendations for painkillers are provided by app-based medication reminders, which also improve drug compliance.
