How are Segments Performing in the Global Biogas Market? Biogas Market Source Segment Analysis Based on the source, the municipal segment accounted for xx% of the market share in 2024. Municipal sources dominate biogas production primarily due to the large, readily available volume of municipal solid waste (MSW) and wastewater generated in urban areas. Rowing usage of this municipal solid waste (MSW) in biogas production for reducing landfills and greenhouse gas emissions is expected to support market demand over the forecast period. Anaerobic digesters operate to process municipal waste components made from food scraps, yard debris, and other organic materials to generate biogas. Urbanization and dense populations lead to the generation of vast quantities of MSW and wastewater. This provides a consistent and abundant supply of organic matter for biogas production. Many cities have established infrastructure for managing waste and wastewater, making it easier to integrate biogas production into existing systems. Increasing environmental concerns and regulations around waste management, particularly concerning landfill gas emissions (methane), are driving the adoption of municipal biogas production technologies. The industrial is the fastest-growing segment in the Biogas Market. Demand for biogas is driven mostly by industrial sources, especially from industries like pulp and paper, food and beverage, and agriculture. These businesses produce a lot of organic waste, such as wastewater, food scraps, and process residues, all of which are perfect for anaerobic digestion. Industries can cut disposal costs, accomplish sustainable waste management, and produce renewable energy for on-site use or sale by turning garbage into biogas. The increasing focus on corporate sustainability programs and circular economy principles makes biogas solutions even more alluring, which increases market demand from industrial sources.

Competitor Analysis
Competitive Landscape of the Biogas Market
Major competitors in the competitive landscape of the biogas market are concentrating on technological innovation, strategic alliances, and global expansion. Big businesses like Wärtsilä, EnviTec Biogas AG, and Air Liquide make investments in cutting-edge anaerobic digestion and biogas upgrading technologies in order to increase utilization. Furthermore, local feedstock availability and government incentives are being leveraged by regional players. Competition is getting more fierce as businesses strive to broaden their service offerings and fortify their positions in the global market due to the rising demand for biomethane and renewable energy.
In June 2022, In the UK, Wärtsilä began working on a new Green Gas Mill project that will turn grass into a gas that can be used to heat homes. British energy business Ecotricity, which is committed to combating climate change, is leading the project. The project will be operational in 2023, having begun in April of 2022.

In January 2021, Wärtsilä declared that it would provide two sizable biogas upgrading facilities to various Danish regions. The towns of Kong and Kvaers would host the two factories. Each year, around 40 million Nm3 of biogas would be converted to biomethane by these units. They would supply about 470 gigawatt-hours of green gas energy, which is enough to power over 45,000 cars. By 2022, the plants should start supplying biomethane to the Danish gas system.

January 2022: BioConstruct announced it had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Cologne-based electricity trading company, Next Kraftwerke in Germany. The company also revealed that, under the agreement, Next Kraftwerke would market 40,000 MWh of biogas electricity in the first quarter of 2022. BioConstruct delivers electricity from its biogas plants and its customers' facilities. A total of 86 biogas CHPs are involved in the fixed-price PPA.

Introduction of the Biogas Market
Biogas is an environmentally friendly, renewable energy source produced by the breakdown of organic matter, such as food scraps and animal waste. It is a renewable fuel that's produced when organic matter, such as food or animal waste, is broken down by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. This process is called anaerobic digestion. It can occur naturally or as part of an industrial process to intentionally create it as a fuel.
The biogas market is crucial for promoting environmental sustainability and reducing emissions to facilitate contemporary operations. As food production escalates to support population growth, organic waste is generated that can be converted into biogas using bioreactor technology. Worldwide, government agencies back biogas as a recognized renewable technology, aiding in their efforts to lower fossil fuel use and cut emissions. For example, the Indian government is dedicated to enhancing bioenergy in the country by providing incentives and enforcing blending requirements, aiming for a 5% CBG blending target by 2028. Additionally, India anticipates the launch of a total of 750 CBG plants by 2028.
