Initiate action against Nestle for malpractices: Consumer affairs ministry to FSSAI
The Department of Consumer Affairs has taken serious notice of Nestle's alleged wrongdoings and is pursuing legal action against the corporation for the high sugar content of its Cerelac baby cereals, which are sold in India. Business Today TV has been informed by government sources that Nidhi Khare, the Consumer Affairs Secretary, has written to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on this matter."Any departure from safety standards could result in serious health concerns, as the health and well-being of our citizens, particularly infants and young children, are of utmost importance," the letter stated. A Swiss investigative group called Public Eye reported that samples of Nido, a brand of follow-up milk formula for infants one year and older, and Cerelac, a cereal for kids between the ages of six months and two, were found to contain sugar from Nestle in the form of sucrose or honey. It is purported that the business increases the amount of sugar in Nestle Cerelac baby cereals marketed in India by 2.7g per serving, but refrains from doing so in other nations including Germany, Switzerland, France, and the UK.
