Physio Stim is an emerging bone healing therapy

By Kalyani Raje Published At: 07-April-2023 Updated At: 25-April-2023

What is Physio Stim

Physio Stim device is a non-invasive way of treating fractures which are difficult to heal. With an overall success rate of 80%, the device delivers a pulsed electromagnetic field signal to the targeted fracture site, allowing the process of healing. It has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of nonunion fractures. Nonunion fractures are considered to be established when the fracture site shows no visibly progressive signs of healing.

Following are some of the driving factors that are increasing the market for Physio Stim:

  • Surging Geriatric Population:

Population aging is an increasing median age in a population and a shift of region's population towards older ages is due to various reasons. Most developed countries are facing an increasing number of older populations due to rising life expectancy.

It is projected that there will be close to half a million centenarians in the EU-27 by 2050. People above the age of 65 do experience at least a fall per year according to the NHS. This is because of the lack of strength, mobility and balance. However normal slip can also become a major problem in the senior population as it can cause a number of repercussions. Additionally, broken bones and other injuries in elderly people can cause further problems and dependencies. Healing in geriatric population is relatively difficult, and hence physio stim can be used in such patients which accelerate the growth of the market.

  • Mounting incidence of orthopedic injuries

Injuries caused by various types of traumas are among the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. It has been studied that, over the course of a lifetime, every individual will suffer an average of two fractured bones. Each year, there are around 2 million fractures in the US, including those in osteoporosis sufferers.

The strain on the healthcare system is further increased by the rising incidence of sports injuries and degenerative bone disorders. A little over 30 million kids and teenagers play organized sports in the US, and more than 3.5 million get hurt every year. Physio stim can be used in physical therapy to decrease pain and inflammation by improving circulation and muscle contraction. Thus, increasing incidences of orthopedic injuries can stimulate the growth of physio stim market.

Conclusion:

Devices for fixing bones to soft tissues are crucial parts of the orthopedic surgeons. Due to an aging population, there is a growing need for such bone repair devices in the global orthopedic market. As a result, the area of orthopedic research has undergone a paradigm shift in the production of biomaterials for orthopedic devices, and it continues to undergo ongoing changes to enhance functions and subsequently performance. Technological advancement in trauma-fixing instruments thus provides a wide array of opportunities to the physio stim market.
