What is Band Ligator ?
Band Ligators are surgical tools used to ligate deep veins and difficult-to-reach areas. It is employed for the endoscopic closure of anorectal hemorrhoids and esophageal varices.
While a small-diameter circular band made of rubber, latex, or similar material is deployed around the base of the tissue to achieve tight compression that results in vascular compromise (or hemostasis) and subsequent thrombosis, necrosis, and sloughing, band ligators are used to capture a lesion or mound of the target tissue.
Rise in prevalence of chronic diseases
The growth of the band-ligators market is primarily driven by the rising prevalence of chronic diseases. In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the prevalence of chronic diseases. This can be attributed to a number of factors, including changes in lifestyle, aging populations, and advances in medical devices that have improved survival rates for many acute illnesses. For example, according to the National Health Council, chronic diseases affect nearly 132 million Americans, representing more than 40% of the total population of the country. In 2020, that number reached around 157 million, with 81 million having multiple chronic conditions. Band ligation can be used to treat certain chronic diseases such as esophageal varices, which are enlarged veins in the esophagus that can occur in people with liver disease. These varices can be at risk of bleeding and can be a serious complication of liver disease, particularly in advanced stages.
Band ligation can also be adapted to treat hemorrhoids, which can be a chronic condition for some people. By using this procedure, clinicians can help to reduce symptoms such as pain, bleeding, and discomfort. Furthermore, esophageal cancer is more common among men than women. For example, the American Cancer Society estimated that in 2023 around 21,560 new esophageal cancer cases were diagnosed, where 17,030 in men and 4,530 in women in the United States. Esophageal cancer can cause narrowing or blockage of the esophagus, which can make it difficult to swallow and lead to other complications. In some cases, band ligation can be used to relieve these symptoms by placing bands around the tumor or the area of narrowing to help open the esophagus. Therefore, all these aforementioned factors contributed to the growth of the band ligators market over the forecast period.
Conclusion
The band-ligators market is experiencing significant growth, largely driven by the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases such as esophageal varices and hemorrhoids. With a growing number of individuals affected by chronic diseases, the demand for band ligation procedures is expected to continue rising, driving further expansion of the band-ligators market in the foreseeable future.
