The global 18O Stable Isotope market was valued at USD 133.03 Million in year 2022 and is expected to register a CAGR 5.1% from 2019 to 2026.
The 18O Stable Isotope Market Revenue for Industrial Grade was valued at USD 40.29 Million in 2022.
The use of stable isotopes combined with mass spectrometry is widely accepted as a valuable research methodology. Oxygen-18 is a stable isotope of oxygen and can be found naturally in environment. It has wide range of applications in medical and industrial applications. It is used as a precursor for the production of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) used in positron emission tomography. Additionally, it can be used with ice cores to determine the temperature from when the ice was formed. Further, it is widely used as a tracer in many hydrologic studies. It can be used as a component in a mixing-model and hydrograph separation.
This compound has a density almost 30% greater than that of natural water. It allows to measure the oxygen uptake by the photorespiration pathway in the study of plants' photorespiration.
18O Stable Isotope for Medical Applications
Through the development of various methods of isotopic analysis has been achieved the possibility of the effective use of stable isotope-labeled compounds in many medical applications. Oxygen-18 is used as precursor for medical radioisotope. Use of the compounds, "labeled" Oxygen-18 isotope, allows identifying causes of many diseases of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, to diagnose lung diseases and determine the effectiveness of pharmaceuticals in the study and treatment of brain diseases.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is effective for early-stage cancer diagnosis and prognosis, and its use is spreading throughout both the developed and developing world. Furthermore, development of new PET diagnostic reagents that can be applied to diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and cardiac diseases has been advancing in recent years.
Stable oxygen isotope produced in a cyclotron has its wide application in recent Positron Emission Tomography (PET) technique. A positron-emitting radionuclide is introduced through injection which gets accumulate in the target tissue. As it decays it emits a positron, which promptly combines with a nearby electron resulting in the simultaneous emission of two identifiable gamma rays in opposite directions. These are detected by a PET camera and give very precise indication of their origin.
Analyst Conclusion
The North America 18O Stable Isotope market size was USD 31.65 million in 2014 and it will be USD 51.07 Million in 2026.
