Pet Food Extrusion Market Extrusion Method Type Segment Analysis Hot extrusion Cold extrusion According to cognitive market research, hot extrusion method holds the dominant share in the market. Hot extrusion is also known as extrusion cooking in which the heating of food is usually carried out at more than 100 degrees Centigrade. Hot extrusion (or extrusion cooking), is used to produce a wide range of products, including crisp snack foods, sugar confectionery, and soya-based weaning foods. Firstly, the ingredients for the pet food formulation are mixed thoroughly. This mixture typically includes ingredients like grains, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Then this mixture is conditioned by adding water and steam. Conditioning serves to soften the ingredients and make them more pliable for extrusion. The conditioned mixture is fed into the extruder, which is a machine consisting of a barrel with a screw inside. The extruder has a die at the end, which shapes the pet food into the desired form. The die can be customized to produce different shapes and sizes of pet food such as kibble or treats. In hot extrusion, the temperature of the extrusion process is typically higher compared to cold extrusion methods. This high temperature helps to cook the ingredients thoroughly and sterilize the product, ensuring safety and quality.

Introduction of the Pet Food Extrusion Market
Pet food extrusion is a process of producing pet food products by mixing and cooking ingredients such as grains, proteins, and fats then shaping them into desired shapes and sizes. Pet food extrusion refers to a form of extrusion widely used in food processing. The increase in the shift in focus toward natural grain-free products and the surge in pet humanization accelerated the market growth. In this method, a set of mixed components is enforced through an opening in a punched plate along with a project that is specific to a food. It is then expanded through a definite size by blades. The extruder is the equipment used to force the mixture through the punched plate. The extruder consists of a huge rotating screw that is firmly fit in an immobile barrel and at the end of it is a die. The extrusion method is the most common method used to produce pet foods worldwide. Before extrusion, the ingredients are ground and mixed. The pet food industry is in continuous search of innovation. The process of extrusion has been applied for nearly a century. It began in the rubber industry where extrusion was used for the production of items such as hoses and belts. Extrusion has been also used since then for the production of pasta using a batch extrusion concept. An extruder is a machine that manufactures extrudates, a common form of commercial dry canine foods. During the process of extrusion, wet and dry ingredients are mixed to form a dough. The dough is then cooked under high pressure and high temperature and pushed through a die that shapes and cooks the food, which is subsequently knife-cut and dried. This technology of pet food processing forces the mixture of the ingredients through a spiral screw and then through the die of the extruder. During extrusion processing, the ingredients are ground, mixed, and heat-treated. As a result, a ribbon-like product (the extrudate) is produced and dried afterward. Examples of food items include an infinite variety of snacks, pasta, textured vegetable protein, breakfast cereals, and the like. Extrusion processing of dietary ingredients and feed/food for animals began in the 1950s to produce complete foods for dogs.
For various reasons, owners prefer to purchase complete and balanced diets for their dogs instead of formulating diets by mixing various ingredients themselves. Commercial pet foods can be divided into four basic types of diets: dry, semi-moist, moist, and snacks. Dry pet foods comprise the largest segment of the amount and value of pet foods sold worldwide. In the traditional extrusion process, more than 100 degrees Celsius is required to achieve the desired results. Currently, cold extrusion is applied internationally for the production of a no of products such as sweets, supplements, and medicines. These can be obtained in different forms such as cool, damp, half-damp, dry, freeze-dried, and dehydrated. Pet food safety is critical not only because it is the law but is also the responsibility of the pet food manufacturer to maintain a safe food supply.
Analyst Conclusion
The pet food extrusion market consists of revenues earned by entities by providing steam-induced and co-extrusion. The market value includes the value of related goods sold by the service provider or included within the service offering. The pet food extrusion market also includes sales of extruded pellets, biscuits, and kibbles. Values in this market are ‘factory gate’ values, that is the value of goods sold by the manufacturers or creators of the goods, whether to other entities (including downstream manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers) or directly to end customers. The value of goods in this market includes related services sold by the creators of the goods.
