Business Segment/ Overview:
Unilever PLC is a consumer goods company that operates through three business segments such as beauty & personal care, foods & refreshment, and home care. Its beauty and personal care segment offers skin cleansing, hair care, deodorants, skincare, and other category products. A significant proportion of Unilever’s products are aerosols and sprays which include underarm antiperspirants, hair sprays, and cleaning products. The company’s food & refreshment segment offers ice cream, Savory, dressings, and tea among others. Further, its home care segment offers fabric solutions, home, and hygiene products. The company owns several brands such as brands include Lifebuoy, Dove, Sunsilk, Knorr, Lux, Sunlight, Rexona/Degree, Axe/Lynx, Ben & Jerry's, Omo/Persil, Heartbrand (Wall's) ice creams, Hellmann's and Magnum.
After years of collaboration with the California Air Resources Board to advocate for regulatory changes, VOC regulations in the US were updated in 2022 to include provisions allowing the use of alternative propellant systems with lower Global Warming Potentials (GWPs). This regulatory shift enables Unilever to begin reformulating some of its aerosol products in the US, marking a significant step toward achieving greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions.
