It initially specialized in microscope and thermometer businesses and Olympus brand was introduced in February 1921. In 1936, the first Olympus camera, the Semi-Olympus I, was launched. Further in 1959, the Olympus Pen, an innovative half-size camera, was launched followed by the launch of GTF fiber gastroscope in 1964. In 1982, Olympus introduced an ultrasound endoscope system and in 1987, the company introduced an automatic enzyme immunoassay system. In 1993, Olympus introduced an ultrasonic videoscope system and in 2003, the company was renamed as Olympus Corporation. In 2012, Olympus formed a business and capital alliance with Sony. In 2020, Olympus collaborated with PhenoVista to deliver an innovative 3D Cell-based Assay service for Drug discovery. |
