In 1920, Yokohama Electric Cable Manufacturing Company and Nikko Copper Electrolyzing Refinery, previously a subsidiary of Furukawa Kogyo Co., Ltd., consolidated to establish The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. In 1972, Furukawa precision Metal Industrial Co., Ltd. established with W.C. Heleus of West Germany to manufacture precision processed products for electronic equipment parts. In the year 1983, Furukawa Aluminum Fukui Plant established in Fukui Coastal Industrial Zone in Mikuni-cho, Sakai-gun, Fukui prefecture. Thai Furukawa Unicomm Co., Ltd. established in Thailand for construction work for communications. In 2000, the company established a joint venture company with Hitachi Cable, Ltd. for copper tube manufacturing in China. In 2019, the company agreed with SWCC Showa Holdings Co., Ltd., on the integration of sales functions and a business alliance in general purpose power cable business for the construction and wholesaler markets. In 2020, stablished a magnet wire business joint venture with Superior Essex and transferred Furukawa Electric Group’s heavy magnet wire business, etc., to the joint venture. |

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. manufactures wires, cables, and metal products. The Company holds patents in optical fiber coating technology and produces optical fiber cables in the United States. Furukawa Electric's metal products include aluminum cans, air conditioner parts, and shape memory alloys. The company has its four core technologies are “metals”, “photonics”, “polymers” and “high frequency”. And, in its six business fields of telecommunications, energy, automobiles, electrical parts and components, construction and architecture, and new business and products, it will continue to work to develop a diverse range of products. The energy infrastructure segment is made up of the power cable business and industrial cable & power cable accessories business. These businesses provide manufacturing, sales and installation of extra-high voltage, high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage power cable and equipment.
